Paul Bunya’s bronze-medal winning World Cup triumph was greeted with a standing ovation as he was shown off to the crowd by the likes of his teammates, former cricketers Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni, and Australian cricket captain Michael Clarke.
Bunyan, who led the country to the World Cup in 2010, was awarded the bronze medal with his compatriot Dhoni in a match that was won by Australia, but the crowd’s response was less than enthusiastic.
The crowd was split along the lines of, ‘We want him, we want him!’ or ‘Who are you?’, depending on the response.
Bundyan, though, was undeterred and said he will be back for the finals.
“I will be coming back,” he said.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen.
If it’s going well, I’ll come back and maybe do something different.
I don’t have to be here.”
